Museum's Day & 'The Spinners'

The photograph has been taken during the 'Museum's Day' at the old forge of Ripoll

Photographic interpretation of the work of Velazquez 'Las Hilanderas' ['The Spinners'] in the year 1657. In the foreground, the spinners, which are part of the the Wool Festival of Ripoll (Girona, Pyrenees), created in 1967 to show the local lifestyle of the previous century, drive the visual ray that reaches the couple who celebrate their folk wedding, recovered Catalan tradition since 1971 which commemorates the union of marriageable daughter and the heir of the wealthy families in rural areas.

The Forge of Enric. Photo of The Year 2010

A photograph interpretation of the painting of Velazquez ‘La Fragua de Vulcano’[‘The Forge of Vulcan’] from 1630.
Apollo, in this case Ramon Martí, 94 years old, visits the forge of Vulcan where his family works preserving their family’s trade from great grandfather time; Three generations in the same studio: Ramon Martí, his son, Valentí 56 years old, his granchildren Enric and Marc (20 and 24 years old) and their uncle Jaume, and a coworker Jordi. This work is a reflection on the passage of time and memory and pays homage to the passing on of traditional knowledge and the uncertainty of it’s future.

SENY, Museu de la Vida Rural

Two generations of stonemasons and blacksmiths were involved in the restoration of the Monastery of Poblet after the return of the Benedictine Order in 1940.
The legendary craftsmanship of that universe of creators became our timeless heritage. A Heritage that has been taken over by the present generation of hand-forging men that work to preserve their family’s trade; linking the memory of the past with the expectation of the future.
Working as a mirror of Medieval’s Patristic Philosophy, where eternity is revealed in terms of creation, the trajectory of these two families has run a parallel course in time and space.
This work is a reflection on the passage of time and memory. This work pays homage to the passing on of traditional knowledge, it’s traces, the hardship of craftsmanship and the uncertainty of it’s future.
